These are serious infections and are due to infection of the fibrous sheaths and synovial lining of the flexor tendons of the hand. This inflammation can derive from a great number of distinct processes, including idiopathic, infectious, and inflammatory causes.
Most patients present with complaints of pain, redness, and swelling of the affected digit over the period of hours to days.
